Textile HMI Controller Enclosures

Revere Control SystemsHMI Workstation Enclosure for Textile Manufacturer is an automation EPC and control systems integrator primarily focused on integrating hardware and software from multiple suppliers into a single control system solution. Founded in 1980, Revere helps clients increase production capacities, improve time-to-market, optimize assets, and meet regulatory requirements. In addition to control system integration and assembly, Revere also provides services including industrial network security, professional consulting, wireless communication, legacy panel migration, hazard analysis, and on-site support. Their turnkey engineering design, procurement, and automation services are used in a variety of industries including:

  • Municipal Clean Water
  • Utility Power
  • Textile
  • Metals & Mining
  • Oil & Gas
  • Food & Beverage

Recently, Revere Control Systems contacted EIC Solutions because their client in the textile industry, who supplies linens to a global hotel chain, required human-machine interface (HMI) consoles. They needed an enclosure large enough to house their internal remote I/O subpanel, a 19”W computer monitor, keyboard, mouse, and KVM extender, while leaving enough space for pushbuttons and sensors. The HMI workstation required easy access to the keyboard and mouse for production line setup, changes, and monitoring. These processes needed to be completed without exposing the internal electrical components to the plant floor environment which is subject to lint dust, peroxide, and routine water wash-down.

Protecting the HMI consoles was of the utmost importance because they serve as a complete operational interface for three major production lines: The pre-production line which controls prep and bleaching of fabric, and two finishing lines that take the fabric to a run-through oven and prepares the material for packaging. EIC recommended a Protector SeriesTM FSE-070-4X, NEMA 4X, Workstation Enclosure for Revere’s HMI consoles to protect the sensitive electronics from the harsh environment. The enclosures ensured uninterrupted functionality of the critical production line equipment, with features including:

  • NEMA 4X construction, welded Type 304 stainless steel
  • Slide-out keyboard shelf
  • Polycarbonate 19” monitor viewing window
  • Front and rear doors with key locking latches
  • Three internal, vertically-adjustable, vibration-isolation shelves
  • Cable exit panel beneath door on rear for easy exit of cables

Air Conditioned Electronic Enclosures

The overall enclosure design allowed enough extra space to install internal subpanels for additional equipment mounting. The NEMA 4X construction provided proper seals around the keyboard, which was critical for Revere’s textile customer. The FSE-070-4X had the form, fit, and function the customer specified for their HMI consoles. Revere Senior Project Engineer Greg Coker said, “The workstation enclosures showed quality workmanship, making EIC Solutions, Inc. an obvious choice for this project.” EIC has had continued success with automated manufacturing plants by providing products that house and can also environmentally control sensitive equipment, under the harshest environmental conditions.
