How To Benefit From A Heated Enclosure

400 BTU Unit

Do I Really Need a Heated Enclosure?

EIC Solutions is a leading provider of air-conditioned electronic equipment-protection systems. When the summer months are in full swing and ambient temperatures are high, many companies look to EIC for a cooling solution that will keep their systems up and running in the heat. However, when the coldest winter months push temperatures well below freezing, equipment can fail just as easily. Cold weather is often not considered when designing an equipment protection system. Without a heated enclosure, low temperatures can cause damages to electronics including:
  • Significant decrease in battery life
  • Non-functioning or slow-responding LCD monitors and displays
  • Increased potential for condensation forming on electronic components which can cause shorts
  • Solid state hard drives slow their memory-writing speed
  • And in rare cases, soldered joints within circuits can become brittle and crack

How Can a Heated Enclosure Help?

To address this issue EIC Solutions offers integral heating options in many of its enclosure air-conditioning systems. The integral heating capability is designed to keep the contents of the enclosure within acceptable operating temperature ranges. In EIC’s ThermoTEC series thermoelectric air conditioners, the heating capability is controlled by an integral fixed-point thermostat. This engages the heat when the temperature drops below approx. 45°F and shuts down the heating function once the temperature reaches 55°F. This simple thermostat requires no adjustment and will continually operate in low temperatures provided there is power to the heating/cooling unit. If more control of the heating capability is required, each of the ThermoTEC thermoelectric air-conditioners can be configured with a DTC-R digital temperature controller. This advanced PID controller allows for complete control of both the heating and cooling functions and when properly sized, can control the temperature to within 1°F of a single set-point. 100 to 800-watt heating capabilities are available on all sizes of EIC’s solid-state coolers from 200-5500 BTU including the Class 1 Div 2, Hazardous Duty systems. As with all our innovative cooling products, our heated enclosures can be customized with varying levels of heat to meet the specific needs of your application.

Protect Your Equipment With a Heated Enclosure

The CB Series Compressor-based Enclosure Air Conditioners are also available with integral heating capability. This functionality can be added to all vertically-mounted, standard-duty units (Integral heating capability is not available on horizontally-mounted units or Class 1 Div 2 compressor-based units). These traditional cooling systems operate the heating function through the same integral digital temperature controller that is included with each unit. This functionality is available in 100 to 400 watts on AC’s from 5,000 – 27,000 BTU cooling capacity. When designing an equipment-protection solution, it is important to address the possibility of low ambient temperatures while also determining the amount of cooling required in high temperatures. Keeping sensitive electronics operating in harsh conditions is EIC Solutions’ number one concern. Avoid the costly failures and downtime by selecting a system that can handle both your extreme high and extreme low conditions.
