Lightweight air conditioner provides solution for small spaces

EIC Solutions Inc. has announced a new product designed specifically to cool small electronic equipment enclosures. The company’s new Thermoelectric Air Conditioner packs a 200 BTU/HR rating into a compact 8-1/4” (H) by 6” (W) footprint and is ideal for cooling wireless equipment, modems, telecommunications gear, computer monitors, surveillance equipment and other electronics enclosed in small spaces.

“Traditional, compressor-based air conditioners usually cannot fit onto small cabinets, but cooling is still needed in these applications,” said Bruce Blackway, EIC Solutions President and General Manager. “We developed the 200 BTU Thermoelectric Air Conditioner specifically for this application, and we’re excited to provide this innovative solution for cooling small electronic equipment enclosures.”

Blackway explained that vortex-style coolers are used in some applications, but the expense of a continual supply of clean compressed air needed to run the units and the noise they generate often make them an impractical solution. Heat exchangers, which are also used for cooling small enclosures, cannot reduce the internal temperature lower than the ambient temperature. According to Blackway, this presents a problem with outdoor enclosures, such as kiosks, in which the heat generated by the electronics is combined with the heat from the sun and results in extreme temperatures inside the enclosure.

“The best solution for cooling these small enclosures is a compact, reliable air conditioner like our new EIC 200 BTU thermoelectric model,” Blackway said.

The EIC 200 BTU Thermoelectric Air Conditioner is constructed to NEMA 4X standards for indoor or outdoor use and is available with cooling and heating configurations in a through-mount or flush-mount designs, unit features a built-in adjustable thermostat, a self-contained condensate drip pan, an integral power supply with a polycarbonate case and nine-foot power cord and Universal AC/DC power input. The 200 BTU thermoelectric model also includes a stainless steel mounting flange and covers as well as a neoprene mounting gasket and stainless steel fasteners.

The unit’s lightweight, solid state design delivers quiet, reliable operation with no compressors, filters or maintenance. EIC Solutions also provides a comprehensive one-year warranty with the product.

“The 200 BTU model is a great addition to our thermoelectric air conditioner line and gives our customers another option – especially for cooling small electronic equipment enclosures,” Blackway said.
