Air Conditioned Enclosures for Measurement Equipment
Electrical contractors and system integrators rely on EIC Solutions, Inc. to provide protection for their clients’ critical electronics. Recently, EIC was contacted by an integrator who was setting up a test site for sensitive lab equipment in a remote, outdoor location in Arizona. The customer’s equipment measures solar cell performance and temperature light intensity. To determine the solar cell performance, it is important that the evaluation process is done outdoors; however, this leaves the equipment exposed to harsh environmental conditions. The proprietary equipment required a controlled temperature to maintain precise measurements, ensuring the data collected is accurate. Based on the equipment operating specifications, 20-35°C was an ideal temperature for peak performance of the equipment; though it was subject to ambient temperatures of 0-45°C. In addition to extreme ambient temperatures, this remote test location would also require protection from harsh environmental concerns such as dust, solar exposure, rain, wind, and desert sand. To protect against equipment failure EIC Solutions recommended an application-specific, environmentally controlled Protector™ Wall Mount Series NEMA 4X enclosure with a ThermoTEC™ 120 Series 200BTU thermoelectric air conditioner. The final enclosure design, featuring a rear sub-panel, ¾” insulation, cable exits, and 100-watt heating capability, was an ideal solution for the customer. The solid-state, air-conditioned enclosures have been in the field for several months and have maintained desired temperatures within the enclosure through the extreme summer climate.
